Quarry Buildings Quarry Buildings

Thirty (30) personnel are employed directly at this site and a significant number of other contract carters, maintenance personnel and suppliers rely on this operation.

Hanson supplies in excess of 20% of the aggregates to the metropolitan area, primarily to the premixed concrete, asphalt and civil construction industries. The proximity of the quarry to the northern metropolitan area ensures the low cost of delivered product to the end user.

This one quarrying operation returns around $10 million per annum back to the community in the form of wages, payments for goods and services and government fees and taxes.
approvals
Red Hill Quarry currently operates under the following approvals:
· Excavation Licence (City of Swan);
· Development Approval (City of Swan and Dep. of Planning and Infrastr.);
· Licence for Prescribed Premises (Department of Environment); and
· Ministerial Approval (Minister for the Environment).

The site is also audited and inspected by representatives from:
· City of Swan;
· Department of Industry Resources;
· Department of Environment; and
· National Certification Services International (NCSI).

Statement of Planning Policy (SPP) 10. Basic Raw Materials, recognises the significance of Red Hill and a "Key Extraction Area".
rehabilitation
Since 1996 over 40,000 trees and shrubs and 60kg of seed has been used to revegetate the site.

Revegetation Revegetation

Terminal quarry faces are progressively battered and planted.

Infill planting is undertaken annually.

Visual monitoring occurs and is reported on each year in the annual environmental summary report.

Rehabilitation Rehabilitated landscape bank facing Toodyay Road

All rehabilitation is designed to provide a mix of landscapes and habitat. Some areas are planted and seeded with local heath land species to assist local habitat regeneration but the height of the vegetation leads to reduced visual management. Other areas are planted with taller local trees and shrubs where visual protection is desirable.
initiatives
The Red Hill Quarry consists of the following:
· Fully enclosed crushing and screen buildings;
· Dust extraction and water suppression in plant;
· Water cannons for stockpile dust suppression;
· Water truck on site for roadway dust suppression;
· Ongoing dust monitoring, both perimeter and personal;
· Noise and vibration monitoring for each blast; and
· Water monitoring from local streams.

Onsite Dam All water used on site is sourced from onsite dams collecting runoff from pit, access roads and stockpiles
