Bushfire Ready Action Group · Feedback from Community Meeting

Bushfire Ready
A great turnout at Wednesday’s meeting and many thanks to those that assisted with preparations and on the night from FESA, City of Swan and of course both East and West Gidgegannup Volunteer Bush Fire Brigades. I have attached the text of an article we hope to see in the next Gidgegram but I would like to add that the time for action is now.

Bushfire Ready article..

On Wednesday we had some questions about the management of Horses in a Bushfire. One of our community has kindly researched this for us and located a Victorian AgNote on the subject. The paper also covers some of the more broader issues with bushfires and is therefore relevant to all residents not just those with Horses.

West Gidge Fire Brigade · News and Fire Advice

Fortunately the Victorian fires have been controlled. It remains to be seen whether improved bushfire fire management strategies are adopted in Victoria as a result.

Inevitably changes will follow on in WA, with one likely outcome being that wider windows of opportunity will be given to DEC and other agencies for hazard reduction burning, even though this will mean city residents have to put up with a bit more smoke occasionally.

Clean up Gidge · Locals join in Clean Up Australia

Locals join in Clean Up Australia with a clean up of Gidge. On a hot Sunday the 1st of March a group of concerned residents pitched in and gave up their Sunday to clean up the roads around the village. Most encouraging was the young helpers from Eastern Hills high school, Helena College and Swan Christian.

Many thanks to all who helped clean up the many bags of rubbish and a special thanks to Glenda and Alan for organising the event and the City of Swan for removing all that was collected. There will be further clean up days in the coming months.
