Fire Brigades · Prohibited Burning / Total Fire Bans / Firebreak

No apologies for yet another missive re. fire safety. There have been several incidents already including John Forrest National Park and the Avon Valley. Some have been accidental, some suspicious, and some deliberate. We have already had a vehicle movement and harvesting ban imposed by City of Swan.

Last week a local behaving irresponsibly lost control of a fire near his house/sheds after he did some illegal burning. He had a permit to burn small heaps but decided to burn verge and grass around buildings instead. Fortunately there was little wind and the fire was contained by brigades before spreading too far and impacting neighbours. The owner was very lucky that his house and shed were not involved and damaged. It took several hours of mopup to make safe. The City of Swan has taken steps to prosecute.

The Department of Transport has set minimum sales requirements of ten plates per annum. Gidge Fire Brigades · Fire News and Advice Nov 2010

Please be reminded that the Restricted Burning Season has commenced on 1st Oct and continues to 30th Nov (unless shortened). The total Fire Ban will commence from 1 December.

At the time of writing we have just had the major fire in John Forrest National Park. This threatened a number of hills communities and has to serve as a wake up call to Gidge residents to develop and implement a robust Bushfire Action Plan.

So far the outlook is very dry with greatly increased bushfire risk. We are already seeing late December/early January fire behaviour, and many dams from which we would normally get firefighting water all season are likely to be dried out by mid to late January.

Kookaburra Cinema · Start of the New Season

Well, despite all the doom and gloom sayers re the relocation of the DEC depot to alongside the cinema it is well under way with very little impact upon the cinema to date. We have lost some tree vista out to the north but many of the close by mature trees are still there and we have been rather busy replanting the understorey over winter so in time much of the greenscape will return.

The first program segment is attached as a PDF file and we trust that you find something of interest in the offerings to suit your taste.

Interestingly the Opening film "The Concert" was to have been the opening film for PIAFF last summer but the timing did not line up with what the distributor wanted so it went out to general cinema release in May this year. It is a delightful film and having viewed the trailer a couple of times and had feedback from a friend who operates Mt Vic Fliks in the Blue Mountains who has now screened it on 4 separate programs due to public requests again and again.. it comes highly recommended... it has the lot Comedy, Drama, Music and human emotions all in one.

FESA · Prepare, Act, Survive

If you live in or near a bushland area, bushfire is a real risk to you and your family.

Bushfires happen every summer, they can start suddenly and often without warning. People have been killed or seriously injured and homes are destroyed during bushfires.

Before summer starts you need to decide what you will do if a bushfire threatens. If you live or work in a bushland area you need to prepare your home, family or business and have a plan so you can act to make sure you survive.
