The Fire Danger forecast for the 31st Jan 2012 is severe.

FESA has issued a TOTAL FIRE BAN for the whole of Perth, including the Perth Hills (and including the whole City of Swan), and nearby Shires for the whole of 31st Jan 2012. Details are on the FESA website or 1800 709 355.

City of Swan is extending the VEHICLE MOVEMENT AND HARVEST BAN until midnight 31st Jan 2012. Details are on 9267 9326. Local Govt bans will be broadcast on ABC 720 at 10:05 am, 13:05 pm, 14:05 pm.

The legal onus rests squarely for YOU to check if you plan an activity which MIGHT contravene a ban For those who don’t show common sense and abide by the rules the penalties can be up to $25,000 and/or 12 months imprisonment.

Interesting times with major events such as Margaret River and the restructuring of Emergency Services this year. It will be interesting to see the outcomes of the Keelty Report into the fires down south.

Huge fires caused by lightning in the Gascoyne, and smaller ones in our region. We have also had some very hot weather (more grumpy people!). Very high fuel loads mean when fires occur they are likely to be very active, difficult to control and devastating.

There have been a number of Local Govt Vehicle Movement and Harvest Bans imposed, unfortunately many people are still unaware of them.

This year’s date is Sunday, 27th May 2012.

The hall and showgrounds are booked and we are planning already. We want your ideas on talks, events and what you would like to see at the Field Day. We are organising workshops and talks for the day and also the Folk Federation will be there on the day with story telling and music from 11.00 am to 4.00 pm on the day in the café area.

Prospectuses will be available early in February.

The ever popular Picnic by the Lake will be held on Sunday, 25th March, 2012 at Lake Charlotte.

Gourmet Hampers for two will be available at $60 per hamper. The Wandering Minstrel is attending again this year and we hope to see you there.

Just a friendly reminder of the up and coming CJ Jackson clinics being hosted by the Gidgegannup Basketball Club. Player support and participation is important to ensure future training clinics are available to players. Plus it’s something different to do in the school holidays.

A copy of the flier is attached, please return ASAP (helps us know numbers so we can cater for the sausage sizzle as well).

Note: So that participants can do the clinic with team mates and friends, the sessions are according to the age groups of the comp at Mundaring so if your in "10's and under" at Mundaring then please register in the u/10’s for the clinic etc.

I, Brett Finlay, an authorised Chief Bush Fire Control Officer of the City of Swan hereby declare a ban on the use or operation of engines, vehicles, plant or machinery from 08:00 hours Saturday 28th January 2012 until 08:00 hours Monday 30th January 2012 for the whole of the City of Swan. This ban continues on from current bans in place.

This Ban will be reviewed at 18:00hrs Sunday 30th January 2012 at which time a further advice may be issued.

The City are revoking, proposing and revising various policies. One of these is the Construction of Dams Policy in Rural Zones. Residents and ratepayers may wish to comment on these policies. Closing date is the 20th of February, 2012.
