Community Website · Newsletter September 2014

The Gidgegannup Community Website - www.gidgegannup.info - is now in its 11th year.

Just a reminder that Business Directory renewals are due from 1st July 2014. This, and donations from user groups, is our only income. Reminders and invoices for renewals will be sent out from 1st July 2014.

The community website is an important part of our community and we hope you are happy with it. Please let us know how we can improve it by sending us an email.

If you wish to subscribe to updates on the website a message for you: We have installed new mailing list software which should make it easier for our website visitors to subscribe to our email notifications. Each email that we send out will include an "unsubscribe" link and a link where you can change your email address. Click here to subscribe.

We want to freshen up the home page with a new banner and revolving photos of Gidgegannup scenes and activities. Photos for all the sectors on the Community Website would provide a record of our community to the outside world. So we need your photos. You can send one or two downsized photos (e.g. 800 pixels wide) by email. If you have more photos that you would like to send in, please save them on a USB drive, put the drive in a sealed envelope addressed to the Gidgegannup Community Website and post it C/O Gidgegannup Post Office or leave it at the News Agency.

If anyone feels they would like to join our committee they are most welcome. It is not a time consuming task as most of our meetings are by email. Perhaps you can contribute to this important showcase of our community.

Progress Association · Special Electors Meeting

The Special Electors' Meeting has been fixed for Monday 8 September 2014 at 6.00pm at the Agricultural Hall.

This Meeting will be a chance for people to ask questions and gain information regarding the following.

The Gidgegannup Progress Association, representing the Gidgegannup community, request a Special Meeting of Electors be convened to allow the community to discuss and seek clarification on the following issues:
  • Has the City considered the impact the proposed MRS Amendment 1239/41 – Gidgegannup Urban precinct - will have on Gidgegannup and the surrounding Hills area?
  • Its compliance with the NEHSPP of 2002 and the Gidgegannup Rural Strategy?
  • Whether the Consultation and reporting process for this Amendment has been fair and inclusive of all stakeholders?
  • Whether the progression from urban deferred zoning to urban zoning is achievable on the proposed Gidgegannup townsite, and, if so, what time frame is envisaged?
This meeting is not confined to ratepayers or electors of Gidgegannup, and, as undoubtedly this proposal will have a wide effect on the Hills, please come along if you are interested.

Bauxite Mining May Be On Your Door Step Soon

You may have already heard about a future proposal from a company called Bauxite Alumina Joint Ventures (BAJV) and/or Bauxite Resources Limited (BRL) to open cut mine for bauxite in your area.

Thanks to a small article on the front page of the Toodyay Herald in July, we have become aware that exploration has been going on for a number of years in Morangup, Wundowie, Baker's Hill, Clackline and across the entire Avon Valley. Tenements for exploration have also been granted over hills properties in Wooroloo, Gidgegannup, Chidlow and other locations in surrounding areas.
