19/06/2006 · City of Swan · Mobile Phone Tower Refused

The City of Swan has refused permission for a mobile phone tower on a Reserve Road property in Gidgegannump.

The application for the 50m tower was advertised for public comment and referred to Main Roads, the Gidgegannup Progress Association and the Gidgegannup Primary School P & C Association for comment.

The applicant is believed to have asked the council to reject the application because the conditions imposed by Main Roads were unachievable.

The Gidgegannup Progress Association has asked the Council to lobby Telstra to find an alternate site as quickly as possible citing the "extreme need" for mobile phone coverage in the area.

It is understood that Telstra are in the process of doing this.

03/06/2006 · Main Roads · Toodyay Road Passing Lanes

Three new eastbound Passing Lanes (PL) are being built on Toodyay Rd; PL1 at the top of Red Hill, which will connect two existing Passing Lanes, PL2 between Country Rd & Stoneville Rd, Gidgegannup and PL4 between Aspen Rd & Berry Rd, Gidgegannup. PL3 which approaches Gidgegannup Township from the east was built in 2004. The westbound Truck Bay at the top of Red Hill is also being improved.

Works on PL2 and PL4 commenced late Feb and were scheduled to be completed by the end of May. The revised completion date is now mid June, weather permitting. On Sunday 28 May, a thin bitumen seal was placed on completed works to protect from further wetting. The final bitumen surface will be placed once the surface of the completed works has sufficiently dried out and hardened.

Revegetation work associated with PL2 & PL4 will occur during the winter months. Most of the preparatory work of topsoil and mulch placement has already been completed.

PL1 and the Truck Bay at Red Hill were scheduled to be built between October and December, after the relocation of the over head power line and after winter. It is evident that most of the work involved with drainage, embankments and cuttings have already been completed. Western Power will relocate its line in June.

Inquiries or concerns may be directed to Stephen Alkins at Main Roads on telephone Nos. 93234949 or 0400227879.
