25/09/2006 · Peter Brock · Local Farewell

Motor enthusiasts gathered at the site of Peter Brock's accident to farewell the racing legend last Sunday.

Members of the Combined Torana Club of WA and other motor clubs joined in a convoy traveling to the Gidgegannup site and lay wreaths as a tribute.

About 175 vehicles joined in the half hour convoy and put their lights on as a mark or respect. The emotional tributes resulted in tears. There were gifts of flowers and silence to mark the occasion.

The book is superbly written by Ms. Noela Shepherd.

25/09/2006 · Progress Association · GPs shun poorer suburbs

We didn't realize we were a "Poorer Suburb" but this is what the West Australian claims us to be (pity our rates don't reflect this).

In the ratio of GPs per head of population Gidgegannup comes up with 1 doctor for 3444 people. Only problem is that there is no doctor in town so we don't even have 1 doctor for our population. Perhaps that makes us even poorer!!!

25/09/2006 · Gidge Show · Community Bushcare

Want to look after the bushland in your backyard but don't know where to begin? Start at the Landcare Tent at the Gidge Show!

Come meet members of the Wooroloo Brook and Susannah Brook landcare groups and check out the displays on identifying and controlling local weeds, restoring natural bushland and protecting habitat for native fauna. Free copies of a popular book on weed control will be given away to visitors on the day.

There will be heaps of opportunities to learn - Land for Wildlife representatives can show you the benefits of looking after your bushland and Swan TAFE will be there too, to promote their Conservation and Land Management Program as a career path for those interested in working for the environment. Local native grass expert Una Bell will be on hand to illuminate visitors on the beauty and benefits of native grasses.

Members of the Kanyana Wildlife Refuge will also be there, as well as the Phosphorous Action Group, demonstrating easy steps you can take in the home, garden and at work to reduce the amount of nutrients entering the Swan and Canning Rivers.

As you can see, the Landcare Tent holds something of interest for all - don't miss it!

08/09/2006 · Targa West Rally · Vale Peter Brock

With great sadness CAMS advises that Peter Brock, Australian motor racing legend, has today died in an accident during Targa West, a tarmac special stage rally being conducted near Perth, Western Australia.

It is with great sadness that the community of Gidgegannup heard of the news of Peter Brock’s death on Clenton Road just west of the Copley Dale junction around lunchtime on 8th September, whilst taking part in the Targa West Rally. The Gidgegannup community was hosting lunch for the competitors and support staff at the Percy Cullen Oval and the news was devastating to all concerned.
