Invitation to all residents in the West Gidgegannup area (all landholders/residents west of Reserve and Stoneville Roads - including west side of these roads).

The West Gidgegannup Volunteer Fire Brigade is pleased to invite you to our annual End of Year Xmas Party at 199 Reserve Road, Gidgegannup on Saturday, 2nd December, 2006 at 6.30pm.

We will be supplying a sheep on the spit, sausages, buns and drinks (except spirits). All families attending are requested to bring a salad or sweet to share. We hope you and your family can share in this event. Come and meet your neighbours and local fire brigade members.

By the Gidgegannup Community Church on Saturday 9th December, 2006 at 7.30 pm at Gidgegannup Primary School.

If you are able, please bring a present to place under the Christmas tree for the Graham Maybury Appeal. Please label your present either male or female and state an appropriate age range the present would be suitable for.

A free offering will be taken on the night for the Christmas Bowl Appeal.

Come along and help your community celebrate the joy of Christmas. Hope to see you there.

Christmas Mass will be celebrated at 8.00 am on Christmas Day at the Gidgegannup Community Church in Old Toodyay Road.

Please note the earlier time for this Mass. It will revert back to 9.30 am for the regular first Sunday of the month Mass from 7th January.

Come and join us at the Gidge Hall to learn Square Dancing and Line Dancing. We dance on every second and fourth Saturday of every month. The first time is free.

We will be having our Christmas Party on Saturday, 9th December, which will be a great time to see what square dancing is all about. A great night for the whole family. Supper at the end of the night. All welcome.

First of all our thanks to the EMRC for funding us to help provide new pages on tourism and breed societies. Any input from the community would be appreciated and please send to admin@gidgegannup.info

Also we now have funding to start a Buy/Sell/Swap/Hire/Employ section - this will be online soon. Registration and Payment will be online with a fee of $10 for each registered user for a year, in which time they can submit as many ads as they wish. Watch the website for further details.

We are also examining online payments for membership of community groups and for events, plus downloading of membership forms. Community Groups please let us know if you wish to use this facility. Community Groups also please look at your pages and let us know of any updates required, links that don't work etc.

If there is anything on the website that is not working please let us know or if you think it can be improved in any way.

Online shopping - we have now received funding from the City of Swan to put this facility on the Website - we need expressions of interest so again let us know - we will then be able to sell Gidgegannup Products on line through our connection with Experience Gidgegannup - let us know if you want to participate in this exciting new feature.

The website will also be updated over the next few weeks to make it more user friendly and with a new home page - again input from the community is wanted, together with photos of views, businesses, or anything else to do with Gidgegannup.

We need your help to keep our website interesting and helpful to our community.

In February 1992 the Shire of Swan Council resolved to undertake a study of the Gidgegannup townsite. Consequently, the Council deleted the potential townsite area from the Gidgegannup Rural Strategy. The purpose of this study was to examine the possible development options of the town.

Experience Gidgegannup had a great day at the 60th Gidgegannup Agricultural Show selling out of local products, giving out information on products, growing and information on the attractions of the area. The group also showcased local businesses and tourism enterprises.

Hanson offers an invitation to all Interested local residents to view its Red Hill quarry operation.

Saturday, 18th November, 2006, 10.00 am - 2.00 pm. Tours of the site will run throughout the day. Informative exhibits and quarry mobile equipment will be on display.

Red Hill Quarry is located 3 kms. east of Neumann Road on Toodyay Road.

28/11/2006 · Kookaburra Cinema · Daylight Saving adjustments


Please be advised that as of Friday Dec 8th Kookaburra Cinema will be adjusting the Open Gate time and Movie Start time to compensate for Daylight Saving.

Open Gate time will be 7.15pm. Movie Start Time will be anywhere between 8.30pm and 9pm and that will be entirely driven by when we can get a viewable image up on the screen.

So that we finish at a respectable time the Newsreels (or Pathé News to many) will be dropped. No film running much longer than 2h 20mins will be screened.

So be aware that if you are running late you may well miss the start of the feature as the session start will vary week by week according to the sunset variations.

A reminder from the City of Swan that firebreaks should be in place before November 2nd and staff would be checking individual properties.

For properties less than 100 ha firebreaks should be a 3m clearance around the inside of the boundaries of the property.

For properties larger than 100 ha, firebreaks should be cleared around the inside of the boundaries of the property and firebreaks should be used to divide the property into sections no more than 100 ha.

Specific requirements also apply to buildings, haystacks and tree plantations.

The Annual Meeting of Electors of the City of Swan for the 2005/06 financial year will be held on Thursday, 20th November, 2006. The meeting will be held in the Auditorium, Midland Town Hall commencing at 5.30 pm.

The order of business is as follows:
1. Annual Report for 2005/06 including the Auditor's Report
2. General Business

The Annual Report will be available on the City's website (see link below) or can be inspected at the Administration Centre, 2 Midland Square, Midland and all City libraries from Monday, 13 November 2006.

People wishing to raise motions, ask questions, or make statements do not have to give notice. If you are putting a motion, you will need a seconder and it is helpful to have your motion written or typed out so that the City can have a copy. If the motion is accepted (by way of a vote) at the meeting it will come before Council.

Fire authorities are predicting this summer will be the worst bush fire season on record.

Premier Alan Carpenter said today that after the one of the driest Western Australian winters experienced in years, residents living near bushland needed to be prepared for the threat of bush fire.

Hoons who speed excessively or are convicted of road rage incidents will have their cars impounded under legislation being introduced in State Parliament today.

Police Minister John Kobelke said the measures would also enable police to act on evidence of hoonish behaviour provided by members of the public.
