01/02/2007 · Progress Association · Hanson Red Hill Quarry

At the December meeting representatives from Hanson and their consultants attended to give a quick briefing on a proposed 140 ha extension to this quarry and they will be attending the meeting on 19th February to report further and update the meeting on their consultants’ reports to that date.

What they did not inform us and we only found out a few days before close of submissions was that another application had been made to the City of Swan for a Proposed Variation to Existing Extractive Industry (Hard Rock Quarry) Lot 11, No. 585 Toodyay Road, Red Hill.

This is to extend the present excavation site by 5.6 ha to the North and East of the present pit. The submission period has now been extended to 16th February and documentation can be viewed at the City of Swan Offices or online ( click here ).

The GPA certainly were not aware that this application was to be made and would have required briefing of the community at one of our meetings and access to information such as visibility, location of stock piles, suppression of dust, noise impact study results, flora and fauna survey and protection of water courses to name but a few points.

We would urge members to look at the information that is available and make submissions raising any points or queries they have. This item is scheduled to be brought before Council on 28th February so the earlier you make a submission the better.

The GPA, subject to committee approval, will be making a submission along the above lines. If you have any queries at all please get in touch and we will forward further information.
