09/03/2007 · National Trust WA · Final stage of Kep Track

Construction has just started on the final section of the Kep Track between Clackline and Trimmer Road to the west of Northam.

This work will complete the 75km multi-use track which the National Trust of Australia (WA) developed as part of its Golden Pipeline Project and named after the Noongar word for water – kep.

Following the old rail reserves, the track crosses over the pipeline in a number of places on its way from Mundaring Weir to Northam. Five years, after the project began, walkers, cyclists and horseriders will have access to a purpose-built track that utilises uses parts of the old rail formation and passes through Mt Helena, Chidlow, Wooroloo, Wundowie, Bakers Hill, and Clackline.

It is anticipated that Kep Track will be used extensively throughout the year attracting adventure tourists keen to experience the challenges of the track, as well as recreational users.

05/03/2007 · Kulcha on Swan · Beat in the Bush concert a success

A warm afternoon into a perfect evening and night was experienced at the Kulcha Concert/Beat in the Bush event at the Percy Cullen Oval in Gidgegannup.

From 4.30pm till late the audience were entertained by Red Dash Black and its passionate interpretation of Argentinean music and Dance followed by soloists and duos to suit every musical taste, culminating with local band King Shane.

The fluid audience about 200 at any given time ebbed and flowed through the evening as people came and went according to their musical taste - picnicking on the grassed terraces under the moon.

The Gidgegannup Recreational Club organized the musical program and a sausage sizzle and Experience Gidgegannup had their trailer in attendance providing information on the district and selling local produce.

A great evening which will be repeated next year to be even bigger and better.

This event was sponsored by the City of Swan.

  local businesses;
- Work with Experience Gidgegannup Inc. to determine the need and

13/03/2007 · MLA · Western Power Forum

This forum was organized by Jaye Radisich, MLA and dealt with:
- Performance of Network
- Maintenance Activities
- Development Plan
- Transmission
- Distribution

A full report will be available. Briefly the Chidlow Feeder (300 kms) has been identified as one of the worst of the 650 in the State. So far $2.5mn has been spent on upgrading this from the sub station outwards, including a number of advanced technological methods. This initial upgrade will be completed by the end of April 2007. A further $1.5mn. will be spent to complete this in the next financial year. The feeder line is being split into three so faults will be minimized.

With regard to Gidgegannup Western Power have identified the need for a new sub-station to improve reliability. They hope (subject to acquiring funding) to implement this in the next 5-7 years at a cost of some $10-$13 mn.

$60mn. is needed to fix the Chidlow feeder completely and it will be 2020 before it is fixed totally. Western Power is aware of the problems but needs the funding to carry out the work.

What you can do is to lobby and put submissions in when needed to secure this funding.

Western Power also urge people to report all faults and not rely on their neighbours to do so. The more reporting they have the more this helps them to help us.

Remember, if your power is out for over 12 hours you can claim $80. Not much (but this is under review) but claim it.

Forms can be downloaded from the Western Power website (see link below). This link gives access to forms for compensation for prolonged outages and damage. It also tells you how to report a fault online.

05/03/2007 · Dep. of Water · Water Reform Plan Released

The State Government announced that it would accept the majority of the 72 recommendations included in the Blueprint for Water Reform in WA released last week.

Adopting the recommended changes will mean better management and information about water use across the State while also presenting long-term benefits for the environment and broader community.

Changes to be introduced include:
- Comprehensive water planning for water sources;
- Requiring water licence holders to pay a licence administration fee;
- Metering for licensed users who take 50 million litres or more per year.

Domestic water users will not require a water licence or a water access entitlement for a garden bore.
