It’s that sweet time of the year when all things bees and honey are promoted in Western Australia for the month of May.
We have lots of exciting bee and honey themed events arranged for you around the Perth Metropolitan area throughout May. Beekeeping displays, Honey themed degustation dinners and honey themed menus, meet the beekeeper, tour beekeeping facilities, honey talks and much more. See the BICWA website for details. www.bicwa.com.au/events.
This year sees the Honey festival move to join the well-established Gidgegannup Small Farm Field Day on Sunday May 26th. This event has many synergies with our beekeeping industry in that it is promoting sustainability and that’s just what keeping bees is all about.
As usual we will have lots of exciting stalls for you to visit plus our Honey Cake and Honey competitions, all details for these are on the BICWA website.
The Scitech Gang will be on hand to paint faces, create wonderful experiments and just make heaps of fun and entertainment for the little ones. The crew from UWA will also bring along a display hive of bees so that you can all get an insight into how it is to be ‘as busy as a bee’.
The children can follow the pollination activity trail and learn some fun facts along the way.
A massive thank you to all our sponsors that without their support we would not be able to continue with our event. Wescobee Honey & Capilano Honey, West Grove Design, John L Guilfoyle’s Beekeeping Equipment, WA Apiarists Society. Our awesome committee including Christine Spycher, Honey in the Garden, Australian Bee Company, Honey I’m Home Produce, West Coast Honey & Bees Neez Apiaries.
All information can be found on our website or check our facebook page.
The next Toodyay Road Liaison Committee Meeting has been organised for Thursday, 6th June, 2019 at 6.00pm at the Agricultural Hall, Gidgegannup. Please forward items for the agenda. By this time the Federal and State Budgets will have been presented and we will have more idea of what funding there will be available for the Perth-Adelaide National Highway (PANH) and roads in the area.
Perth-Adelaide National Highway (PANH) – State Government will consider this project as part of their 2019/20 Budgetary Process. Ratepayer groups in the Shire of Mundaring have joined the GPA in lobbying for funding for the PANH. City of Swan, Shires of Mundaring and Northam actively lobbying both State and Federal Governments for funds to get this project underway. Ratepayer groups are also actively lobbying.
Would be grateful if items for the agenda could be emailed to the GPA by the week ending 10th May, 2019 so they can be forwarded to Main Roads to give them an opportunity to formulate responses.

A day full of entertainment, advice and fun for everyone.
It is important to use your street address number instead of
your lot number when correctly addressing your property.
The street address number is crucial in enabling an address site to be readily locatable by emergency service responders and service delivery providers.
The Rural Properties Revegetation Program offers native plants free to City of Swan residents whose property is 4,000 square metres (1 acre) or greater in size.
