TELECOMMUNICATIONS
Landlines - Both regular (analogue) and ISDN (digital) connections are available. Check with your preferred service provider for line rental and call rates.
Mobile - Both GSM and 3G (e.g. Telstra Next G) are available but coverage of the Gidgegannup area is only partial. More mobile phone towers are being planned. Check with your preferred service provider for coverage details and rates.
Dial-up Internet - Available over analogue and digital (ISDN) landlines. Analogue landlines are generally noisy and slow. ISDN has a garantueed connection speed of 64 Kbps (1 channel) or 128 Kbps (two channels). Check with your preferred service provider for rates.
Broadband Internet - ADSL is available in the vicinity of the Gidgegannup and Rolling Green exchanges. ADSL is not always available if you live further out from an exchange or if you are connected through a RIM. The Gidgegannup Progress Association has been working with Telstra to overcome these limitations. Please check with your preferred service provider or Telstra what the current situation in your area is. If you can't get ADSL, a satellite or wireless system might be an option. Some companies offer these at subsidised rates through the Australian Broadband Guarantee scheme. Telstra/Bigpond wireless broadband does not fall under this scheme.
Cable - Cable is not available in Gidgegannup. Antennas and satellite dishes are used.
